Brighton- Beram Kayal is ruled out for a number of months after breaking his leg, while Sam Baldock will also miss Brighton's first ever Premier League game through injury.
- With Baldock out injured, Davy Propper or Izzy Brown may support Glenn Murray in attack.
- Anthony Knockaert and Glenn Murray stepped up their returns with minutes for the U23s and will both be desperate to start against City. Chris Hughton has hinted Knockaert may only make the bench.
- Solly March is expected to recover from a knee injury in time and will be available for the home side.
Manchester City- Benjamin Mendy is suffering with a thigh injury and that might delay his Manchester City debut. Danilo, who also joined City this summer, may have to deputise at left-back.
- Ilkay Gündogan is back in training but hasn't featured since December and is expected to miss the first few weeks of the season as he gets back up to speed.
