There have been three internationals and two practice games thus far, and the visiting Windies side is yet to taste success in New Zealand. Windies have not won an ODI since July 2, 2017. The last time they won two successive games was way back during the 2015 World Cup. Yet, with all these numbers stacked up against them, the struggling side can look at their next two ODIs with a sense of optimism.
Matt Henry or Seth Rance is likely to replace Tim Southee in the XI, while Neil Broom may step in for Williamson.
A call on Gayle's availability will be made on the morning of the match. If he cannot play, it is possible that Kyle Hope - brother of Shai - enters the XI. Also to be assessed ahead of the game is seamer Kesrick Williams, who has sustained a hamstring complaint. If he can't play, left-armer Sheldon Cottrell is the likely replacement.
Probable 11
NZ- George Worker, Colin Munro, Neil Broom, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, Henry Nicholls, Todd Astle, Doug Bracewell, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry/Seth Rance, Trent Boult.
WI- Chris Gayle/Kyle Hope, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Mohammed, Jason Holder, Rovman Powell, Ashley Nurse, Ronsford Beaton, Kesrick Williams/Sheldon Cottrell , Shannon Gabriel.
Players who cannot be ignored
Tom Latham- He has set high benchmarks for his opening competitors. He is big threat to watch out for the Windies as he has the tendency to bat for ages.
Shai Hope - They need him to fire if they are to walk off their country with some decent results.
